The Los Angeles Times describes him as “an exceptional young pianist... with irresistible verve, unpretentious directness, and fingers of steel.” New York Concert Review reveals he is “a pianist who seeks out what is new and vital and delivers it with passion,” and whose playing is “powerfully expressive... with considerable drama and poetry.” A pianist and composer, Amir Khosrowpour breaks away from old formulas of concertizing, committing neither to programs of entirely “dead-white-guy” nor entirely avant-garde music. He enjoys challenging audiences, but realizes that 90 minutes of challenges can become taxing. His pianism and musicianship have won him accolades and concerts from across the country, including a Steinway grand piano as a prize from the Music Teachers National Association. He has performed in concert in New York, California, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, New Mexico, and Alaska; and with orchestras in New York City, Los Angeles (giving a West Coast premiere), Kansas City, Orange County, and Long Beach.
As a composer, Khosrowpour has been finding much to do in NYC. As a company member of The Actors Company Theatre, he writes music for the stage. As a founding member of Corky Has a Band, he collaborates with dancers for performances in and around the city. In addition, he has premiered his own music at Steinway Hall, and has produced two solo studio albums.
In 2004, Khosrowpour graduated with distinction from University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor's Degree in both piano performance and composition. Upon completion of his Master’s at Manhattan School of Music, he was honored with the Josephine C. Whitmore Award, given for “exceptional personal qualities” that “contributed significantly to the enrichment of the spirit of the School.” He is currently studying for the DMA, also at Manhattan School of Music. He is most grateful for his mentors Scott McBride Smith, Jack Winerock, and Phillip Kawin.
Aside from practicing all day, Khosrowpour enjoys a good game of Ultimate Frisbee and catching up on the news with Comedy Central.
